Make European feudalism visual, engaging, and easy to understand with this hands-on medieval simulation activity. Students don’t just read about feudalism. They build it.

In this guided drawing lesson, students imagine they are a medieval lord managing land, protection, loyalty, and military service. Through step-by-step directions, they create a visual model of the feudal system that clearly shows the relationships between lords, vassals, serfs, craftsmen, and the Church. Arrows and symbols help students see how power and responsibilities flowed throughout medieval society.

After completing the drawing, students write a 3 to 4 sentence definition of feudalism using key vocabulary terms. They then collaborate with a partner to combine ideas into a stronger, clearer definition before sharing with the class.

This activity reinforces content knowledge while supporting visual learners and encouraging meaningful discussion.
